Folk Art and Oral Traditions of India

For my final South Asian Studies class, I studied Folk Art and Oral Traditions of India. The last assignment instructed students to create a project inspired by Indian folk art or using the methods discussed in class. I chose to produce a five-part series of animations entitled Perspectives of Indian Women. To create this, I used Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects.
Red Bird
"Red Bird" depicts a woman's coming-and-going menstrual cycle.
Sun Girl
Every young girl exchanges energy with the sun.
Emergence
Globalization and female empowerment encourage women to make their own decisions about fashion.
Lakshmi's Abundance
Lakshmi, often pictured with lotus flowers and two elephants, bestows prosperity on her worshipers.
How to Draw a Kolam
Every day, thousands of Tamil women draw decorative kolams on the thresholds of their homes to welcome and honor the great Lakshmi.
